1. Cobalt Robotics
Base, Tower, Stem and Head
At Cobalt Robotics, the design evolution is marked by a focus on four distinct sub-assemblies: the head, stem, tower, and motorised base. To refine the overall design, I have been working on various components within these sub-assemblies with 3D CAD and slicing packages, as well as ROS simulation packages to validate design and function prior to production. The entire system has undergone rigorous field testing. Most parts are considered servicable and require no adjustment in use or production though some are still 3D printed prototypes. This real-world exposure has been instrumental in identifying and prioritising design amendments for enhanced quality control and improvement.
These insights have allowed me to drive the homologation of various parts, ensuring each component not only meets but exceeds Cobalt’s stringent standards of serviceability and reliability. In some cases, this process involves the strategic substitution of bespoke parts with alternative off-the-shelf components, or vice versa. This approach not only streamlines maintenance and serviceability, but ensures they are robust, efficient, and more adaptable to the dynamic demands of the field.
